An Epic Trailer

I know, all my trailers are what some might say "epic," but I feel this one definitely is up there in terms of dramatic:) I was waiting for a video to render yesterday and was watching Rambo, (the newest one) and was listening to the music and thought it sounded very cool. So I looked through my vast itunes library and sure enough, I already had the score! Sweet! So I took 3 different tracks, mashed them up, as well as added some other drum sounds from garage band to create more impact:) I think it helped out a lot.
I'm into film burns as of late and that comes through in this video. I always love to try out new things so the last few days I've been messing around with more compositions etc. in post production which has added some fuel to the fire sort a speak.. Just having fun:)

That's right! I can't believe he's 1 already! I always loved to see all my friends send us announecments for their children's birthdays filled with photos etc. I thought, how cool would it be to start doing these fun little videos of kids for their birthdays. So I did it with my own son! We all love this video, short and sweet, and little Sean loves to watch it and see himself on the big screen!

Rachel {+} Brett \\ Manti, Utah Temple Trailer

Rachel and Brett were married at the beautiful Manti Temple (Dedicated in 1888). To this day, the Manti Temple is one of my favorites. It sits upon a hilltop and is totally majestic and looks out of this world!

Rachel and Brett were blessed with an amazing day! Perfect weather! We all thought is was going to be completely freezing as it was snowing like crazy just a few short hours before the wedding began! The clouds parted and offered us with the warmth of the sun as they came out of the temple to greet friends and family!
This is a short preview trailer ! More to come soon!

Tech info:
This wedding presented itself with a few challanges. The family wanted the video to be shot primarily in slow motion which is not something that I usually do. I much prefer real time wedding films but it just works with these two and the slow motion really helps in capturing the emotion and connection that Rachel and Brett have for eachother!
I shot this one with the 60 D and had a few issues with the spot metering not functioning properly as well as the camera getting overheated when filming longer clips. The lighter weight of the camera also was a challange when operating with the glidecam 4000. The 2000 would have been a better suited rig for this camera to get smoother shots. I much prefer the 5d mark 2 with the full frame sensor to give a more dramatic look but overall I'm very happy with the way things turned out!

It all started back last summer when Ben and Christy contacted me about doing their wedding film. They were a very cool couple to say the least and I had a great feeling about them from the very beginning! This was not your typical couple! They have a very unique story on how they met!

First up, The love story:
Filmed in Downtown Salt Lake City atop a parking garage for the interviews, then we just took a stroll around a couple of blocks to get some great shots of them interacting!

Some of you have asked what happened to Ben (the groom) and why he was wearing a cast and sling. He was involved in a cave climbing incident just a week before the wedding where the rock he was using to belay off of came loose and fell and broke his arm. We're happy he's okay!!

When it's so cold that your camera starts warning you of an impending shutdown and you start to bleed from the knuckles, you know it's cold out! Kris and Brenna got married right before Christmas on December 17, 2010 and it was a very, very cold day! Big surprise right? As they were planning their wedding, Brenna stumbled upon one of my wedding films on one of her friends facebook pages and proceeded to contact me...only 4 days before the wedding!! Talk about waiting till the last minute. As it turned out, I was already booked on the day of their wedding until just earlier that morning when the other couple whos wedding I was to film changed their date to a date in April. Things happen for a reason but I was happy that Brenna wanted to go ahead and have me film her Temple film.

I can't believe that I've been lucky enough to have been doing this for 2 1/2 years already!!

Kimberly and Patrick are getting Married In March but they wanted a fun and unique way to show their personalities:) They are both great snowboarders so they had the idea of going for a fun date up to Brighton Ski Resort. I was excited yet really nervous at the same time. I'm a skier, but not a great skier anymore. When I was a kid, I'd go just about every weekend, but life happens and you get busy and out of practice. This date video was no exception. So I strapped on the skis and held my camera tight on the slopes and heres the super fun, 80's inspired video:)

One of the great thing about planning in advance is you have the time and flexability to plan a video pre-shoot prior to your wedding day:) Think of it as a dress-rehersal:) If you have the ability and time to do one of these shoots, it will take a lot of stress of of you on the wedding day:) In the case of Elizabeth and Kjarom, their wedding day happened to be on a really rainy and stormy day. By doing the pre-shoot, she guaranteed herself and Kjarom some of the best lighting and relaxed shooting time that you can get. We really do have a lot of fun on these shoots! We take our time, get to know you, and get some sweet shots that wouldn't be possible on the wedding day!!

For this one, I attempted something that I don't usually do. Normally, I'll use the preset white balance settings or leave on AWB, but I was in the mood for a challange. I used K white balance for every shot. I think this first go around turned out great as there is not one color-corrected shot in this video. All natural color out of the camera which I feel adds to the quality and prevents any compression artifacts due to using color correction. Plus, let's face it, the video renders in like 2 minutes which is crazy fast!!

Oh, and I got lucky on the ring shot at the end! Again!! Maybe it's not luck...I dunno:) Ha Ha!

Anycase, enjoy! I think this song has become one of my client favorites as it is constantly requested for wedding trailers. Twice in two weeks on this one.

Landon and Shelby got married today, August 12, 2010!! Seriously though, these guys are seriously so rad! We went out to the temple on Tuesday night for little pre-shoot! We actually only filmed at the Temple for 45 minutes and this is what I came up with:)
We were actually on our way out to Saltair for a few more shots and they shut the gate on us just as we were about to enter! No worries though cause I had enough sweet shots for this little vid!! Enjoy guys!! Now on to the reception:)

This wedding was really spectacular! Ash and Josh are so comfortable with each other and it's really great when couples can just be themselves in front of the camera. Sometimes it's a difficult thing to do!

Anyways, a great little teaser for the reception here:)
Everyone loved it, as do I. I even got to use my new favorite music from Inception again:) I usually avoid using the same music twice within a certain time-frame as I used last week on another amazing wedding, but it was a special request from the couple:)

Wow! What A Super Awesome Week

This past week was Amazing! Super busy, Super Hot, and Super Awesome!!! It started out on Tuesday with Trevor and Cortney, then Wednesday with Brad and Melissa, Thursday with Kim and Steven, Friday with Kara and Lewis, and finishing up the week with Kinzie and Brad! Wow! I'm totally exhausted but this week was just so much fun. I seriously love my job and how amazing that it is that I get to spend my days with such incredible, happy people. Sure the work is exhuasting, but so worth it. We did a same day edit trailer for Trevor and Cortney this week and it was so nice to hear from Cortneys mom the morning after the wedding and how happy they were with the video and how amazing it was and how all the brides maids want to use "me" as their wedding Videographer when the time comes! What an amazing compliment!

Part of the fun this week was the photos below. If you are into these things, they are really fun for your guests and I highly recommend them to you if you are in the planning stages of your wedding. Photo Booths are Awesome and they get your wedding guests involved and it provides a great keepsake for the couples. Such was the case this week for Kara and Lewis and tonight Kinzie and Brad! I usually like to just get in there for a few photo ops! Afterall, I need to have a little fun too right? I can't be behind the camera all the time:) Ha Ha! Enjoy:)

This past month has been crazy with 3 weddings in New York, 2 in San Diego, 1 in LA, a whole bunch in Salt Lake City, and now this one in the Beautiful Newport Beach Temple!

I need a breather!

Last weekend, we got to go out to Sunny California again to film a sweet wedding at the beautiful Newport Beach Temple! Greg and Danielle were so great! The reception was held at the beautiful Turnip Rose Venue in Orange County and it was off the hook! Especially the dancing at the end of the night!
Wait for it....there is the most spectacular dance move i've ever seen at a wedding. It's.....well, you'll just have to watch it and see! Incredible! I thought someone was going to get hurt!

We all know summer is a crazy time of year with all the weddings so I wanted to do something a bit different on this post. I've been out in California for over a week for work but I've been able to take some time for a little R&R as well and go do a few things that I love...sightseeing!! I'm in total awe at the beauty of the earth and with the recent oil spills etc, It's important to recenter ones self and remember what it is we are all trying to preserve and protect. Over the past few days, i've seen some great sights and I have fallin in love with nature once more and I wanted to share with you some of the great sights that I've been able to capture through my camera the past few days. Rachel and Craig were married at the Salt Lake Temple On June 05, 2010. For a while there, we didn't know what was going on because Craig became ill the day before the wedding and therefore delayed the wedding ceremony by about 3-4 hours. We were happy to be able to get the shots we did. All in all, we only had about 20 minutes of film time with them in total but were still able to come up with this teaser trailer which played at their reception at Noahs in South Jordan. Congrats you guys! It has been an honor and privalage working with you!

Sara and Jason Preshoot

Sara and Jason got married yesterday, May 15, 2010. It was very very busy day at the temple but we had the opportunity to go out the week before for this pre-shoot.
Benefits of a pre-shoot include:
We choose the time of day and date = Optimal lighting
We have more time than we would on wedding day = Not rushed and stress free
We take more time = more sweet shots at more locations which adds to the uniqueness and originality of the video.

In otherwords, if you have the opportunity or the means to do so, do a pre-shoot!

Sara and Jason got married yesterday at the Salt Lake City Temple! It was soo busy at the location but we were fortunate enough to go out for this preshoot the week before.. Sara is super classy and Jason....one of the funniest grooms i've ever met. It actually made it more challanging cause all I wanted to do was talk and joke around with him. ha ha! Great couple, great times, congratulations Sara and Jason!!

I had another great opportunity to fly out to New York last weekend and film the wedding of Kyle and Anna! What a fun couple. We got to hang out all day basically and just have fun riding in limos; hangin at the botanical gardens; etc. So great!

I had the great opportunity to go down to Southern California last weekend for this awesome wedding! It took place at a bed and breakfast just across the street from the ocean! It was a very small and intimate wedding. Micheal and Cali are both from the East coast so everyone flew out for this destination wedding and we all had a super great time!

This past Wednesday night we took part in the 8th Annual UPVA (Utah Professional Videographers Association) Creative Excellence Awards. It was held at the Jordan Commons Megaplex Theaters where we got to see the winning films on the big screen! It was a great hit! We entered in 6 Categories and wouldn't you know it, we brought home 6 Awards:)

A super windy cold Trailer

Melissa and Dave decided to brave the snow and cold temperatures up at the Draper, Utah Temple. I've never filmed in such cold conditions. Melissa and Dave were cold but spirits were high. How could you not be excited when you're getting married???

On a technical note: I've never had soo much trouble keeping the camera steady on a shoot before. The wind was blowing pretty hard and can be seen with the snow blowing off the temple, I couldn't feel my hands after about 15 minutes. Seriously though, I bet it was -10-15 degrees out there with the wind chill factor. No joke!! I'm amazed that I got some great shots despite the difficulty!

I love it when a couple comes in to the studio to pick up their wedding film.. It gives us a chance to catch up on how everything is going and build the suspense!! Such was the case with Taylor and Becca. As I watched them watch their video, it was soo awesome to see how their cheeks were in soo much pain from smiling so much! It always brings so much joy to us knowing that we can contribute to the joy and happiness of the couples we serve!

Taylor and Becca were married back in October of last year (2009)! Let me just say that I absolutely love working with these two! They were soo into eachother and they didn't even need to be told what to do in front of the camera! They were soo natural and soo in love it made my job all the easier!

All the best to the happy couple! I'm sure I'll be seeing more of them

Hey everyone! So I went to this awesome steadicam workshop out in Hollywood a few weeks back and it was a great experience. We spent about 10 hours a day practicing some essential techniques for successful operations of the steadicam rigs! It was.....exhausting but I highly recommend taking a workshop. Even if you only use handheld stabilizers, this class will teach you principles that will improve your skills, Awesome!!

Yesterday, January 2nd, we participated in the awesome Bridal Extravaganza Show at the Grand America!! We spent the day speaking with brides about the importance of having a professional videographer film their weddings etc! We received a great response from a ton of soon to be brides and we had over 100 brides sign up for more information. We also received over 100 entries into the Chris McClain Productions Annual Free Wedding Film Giveaway!!! Details to follow! Stay posted to see who won!!!

This was a joint shoot with David Perry from www .davidperryfilms.com and was our very first shoot with his 5DMarkII back in May. Funnything is that we actually filmed this several months following thier wedding. They didn't originally have a professional videographer when they got married and they only realized after the fact of how important it really was to them!! Enjoy

Courtney and Taylor suit eachother soo well. Their personalities were soo cute and we had a lot of fun on this shoot up in Logan, Utah. The leaves and colors were spectacular!! We finished things off in an apple orchard and a large field. The cows were very curious as to what we were doing ha ha!! Good times!! Enjoy!

I first met Katie at a wedding a few months ago and she asked me for my card and mentioned that she was getting married in September. A beautiful time of year to be married:) As it turns out, I was already booked on her wedding day so we met out at Red Butte Gardens for this Preshoot video.

Preshoots are great because we control the time and location, and we take extra time to get some really unique shots that we otherwise couldn't do on your wedding day due to time constraints.

Michael and Katie are such awesome people! They were so into eachother so that made it easy for sure:)

Rob and Mckenzie are perfect for eachother and you can tell how much they love eachother right from the start! Best of luck to them as they are getting today! I usually like to do these fun videos at least a few weeks prior to the wedding to give me ample time to edit and such. Last minute, Rob and Mckenzie told me that they wanted something like this so we went out on Monday night and filmed for a few hours. I had the unique and rare opportunity to be filming the very, very first wedding at the newly dedicated Draper, Utah Temple! It was truly an honor to be there with Amy and Dave, and we had a great time!! This Temple presented new challanges because they were still cleaning up a lot of post construction debris as well as cleaning up all the areas from the recent open house. There were only a few areas that we could take pictures! We actually went over to a home across the street, because it had a great view of the temple! I hope you like it!

Here is the Surprise Trailer I put together for Analise and Trevor!! It is amazing what you can do with a little audio! I have to say that I absolutely loved working with Analise and Trevor!! They are so great, down to earth, and soo cool!! They are so great together and only a few shots from this video were actually staged shots. Also in this video, we did a quick (very quick) audio interview to capture some sound bytes to throw in. I think that it helps tell and relate to couples better and it is a new option that I'm offering now. Let me know what you think:)

Jeff & Ashely got to share this special day in a way not many do: For those that know this lucky couple, it has been a long road to get to this happy day! I couldn't feel more honored to have the opportunity to capture their special day! Jeff and Ashley are so perfect for eachother and I have really enjoyed getting to know their family:) Honestly, I'm kinda sad that the wedding is over but at least we have the power of video to help us remember the very special day that it was. Wedding Pre-shoots really make your wedding video unique. They always turn out great because you get to choose the time and location! The lighting is always best just before sunset. We had a great time out at Star Mill and Ashley and Jeff are such a great couple and I feel so lucky to be working with them. UPVA Editors Challange!!

So the Utah Professional Videographers Association has a fun challange that they put on every year where everyone is given the exact same footage to edit and we all come together to check out eachothers edits. Well, my edit was a bit of a story. You see, I found out this morning the competition was tonight and I had just barely recieved the footage yesterday. I was thinking about just scraping the whole deal. There just wouldn't be enough time. Well, a good friend convinced me to just do it! I only had about and hour and a half to do this video but I figured "why not?"
This is what I came away with. Everybody loved it at the competition and were impressed with my edit as I had just barely completed it.
